April 3, 2008
Go here to find out about this program.

The concept for the Tulsa Business Assistance Center was developed in late 1986 by the leadership of the Tulsa Technology Center and Tulsa Community College in response to the deterioration of the Oklahoma economy following the "oil bust" of the early and mid 1980's.

This was a period of tremendous economic uncertainty; exemplified by significant increases in personal and business bankruptcies, bank failures, falling real estate values, declining state and local tax revenues, and many large layoffs by energy related businesses.

The major objective of the Business Assistance Center was "JOB CREATION AND RETENTION".

The Center opened for business in April of 1987, providing training, consulting, and technical assistance to clients covering a broad spectrum of economic activity.

Some specific activities accomplished include:

  1. Administering programs for local businesses that enabled them to increase market share, improve profitability, and increase employment through the Small Business Management Program.

  2. Assist over 120 individuals to evaluate, secure financing, and successfully initiate new business ventures which have resulted in the creation of more than 500 new jobs in the Tulsa area through the Self Employment Preparedness Program.

  3. Assisting over 600 local companies evaluate and participate in government contracting opportunities generating in excess of $800 million in contract awards for our clients

  4. Coordinating the placement of repair work opportunities for local companies with a major aerospace company

The future of the Business Assistance Center is to maintain the high quality programs that will utilize all of the professional resources that the center has to offer small to medium sized businesses in the Tulsa Metropolitan Area. The Business Assistance Center is staffed by business professionals, all of whom have previously owned and operated their own businesses.

The Business Assistance Center has the resources, experience and expertise to help you make the most of your company's potential or assist in your new business start-up.
